Are you experiencing residential sewer stoppage? Chronic clogs can set up an adversarial relationship between the homeowner and their plumbing. If the toilet did what it was supposed to do (flush), there would not be clogs or stoppage, right? Wrong. The most common cause of stoppage is flushing things down the toilet that do not…
Trenchless Pipe Lining: The Environmentally-Friendly Solution
Are you considering trenchless pipe lining for your new home? Finally buying a home can be a life-changing experience for anyone, a time of excitement and pride. However, with it comes plenty of new responsibilities, financially and otherwise. This means that when a roof caves in or the garage door falls off, there is no one to turn to for help but yourself.
One of the more frustrating problems a homeowner can face is an underground pipe breaking. Not only can it damage the landscape (and smell awful if it is a sewer pipe), it tends to cost a lot and the repairs end up tearing up half the lawn.
But is there another option besides excavating all the broken pipes?
How can you fix pipes without digging them up?
It sounds strange, but in the past 15 years, a new method for fixing pipes has risen, one that is much easier on both the wallet and the lawn. When a pipe cracks or breaks, it does not necessarily have to be yanked out of the ground anymore.
Instead, the pipe can be repaired from the inside with an inflating and hardening liner that completely repairs and replaces the structural integrity of the old pipe. This process is called “trenchless pipe lining,” and it is a solution everyone should consider when an expensive underground pipe collapses or cracks.
How does trenchless pipe lining work?
Basically, an outer layer of polyester is saturated with an epoxy compound that will heat up and harden through a chemical reaction. This will not happen until after the liner has been threaded into the pipe and an inner bladder inflated.
This bladder expands and uses the shape of the original pipe to shape the new liner. Then, after a few hours, the liner hardens to a consistency as strong as the original pipe. The bladder is then removed and the pipe is repaired.
Consider the environment
Tearing up the yard, the sidewalk or the driveway can have effects beyond just time and money. All kinds of insects and animals live in those spaces, as do root systems and other plant life.
It is no secret that the environment is on everyone’s mind, and trying to do as little damage as possible is important to many people. If you count yourself among them, trenchless pipe lining can fix the cracked pipe problem without doing tons of damage to the surrounding environment.
Trenchless pipe lining also uses less material and fuel; they are manufacturing a new pipe, having it shipped and doing all the energy-intensive steps along the supply chain. And while no process is completely void of a carbon footprint, the materials for the liner are much lighter.
Save money, time and the environment all at once
Why settle for excavating half the lawn or even the street (which, of course, you have to pay for) when there is such a simple and high-tech way to repair those broken underground pipes? Trenchless pipe lining is getting used more and more instead of excavation and can keep your lawn looking pristine and make your pipes stronger than ever.
