Residential Sewer Services for Problems to Have Professionals Fix

For those who live in homes with a sewer system, the inevitability of needing sewer services exists. If the problem has already been discovered, it is important to know what problems someone may be able to fix them himself or herself and what problems require the help of a professional.

Sewage backups require residential sewer services

Sewage backups are rare, but they occur. It is important to remember to protect those in the home from contact with any sewage that may seep into the home by identifying and getting rid of the problem as soon as possible. Most sewage backups can be first noticed in the lowest drain in the home. The backup may worsen when water is used elsewhere in the home or when toilets are flushed.

Every home is outfitted with a main sewer line that drains waste away from the home. If a backup occurs because of flushing or using water from anywhere in the home rather than a specific sink or shower, the problem is probably coming from the main sewer line. If a sewage backup occurs in the main sewer line, professional residential sewer services will be necessary to uncover and repair the problem. If the backup is isolated to one room of the house, it may be possible to repair the issue without professional help as it could just be a clogged drain.

If backups occur regularly even after cleaning out the drains, a bigger issue could be present, and an inspection may be necessary to determine the issue. In some cases, persistent sewer backups could mean it is time to have deteriorating lines replaced altogether.

Never ignore sewer odors

If the smell of sewer gas odors is present in the home, there could be a crack in the sewer system or some of the lines that are leaching sewage or just sewer gas out. If this is the case, a professional will have to identify and fix the problem.

In some cases, sewer odors are simply caused by a drain that has not been used in so long that the natural water barrier in the trap has dried out. If this occurs, there will be no seal keeping gas smells down. This problem usually occurs in basements or bathrooms that are rarely used. Sometimes the remedy is as simple as running water down the drain the fill the trap. Occasionally, it may require some baking soda and vinegar poured into the drain first to reduce odors before water is poured down the drain to finish fixing the issue.

Mold growth can also cause issues

The development of mold on the ceilings or drywall always indicates water damage. Rarely is the mold only a result of humidity and standing air. If the problem is as small as a room being humid, a dehumidifier should solve the issue. If the dehumidifier does not help, its time to contact a residential sewer service provider.

If mold growth is present, it is important to have someone check behind the walls for a sewer line leak or break. Continued water damage will lead to expensive repairs and sometimes irreversible damages, and it could be a hazard to health. If there is a leak, a professional sewer service provider can identify its location and perform repairs before the issues grow.
